This month has absolutely been insane. I knew it would get crazy but I never thought it would get THIS bad. Oh well... I've been trucking through this month as best I can. I finished my advertising campaign with my group. I need to reprint it on the correct paper though because I ordered plantable paper to print the posters on. Yes. Plantable paper... You can tear up the paper, put it in soil, water it and wild flowers will grow. The company that sells it is called Botanical Paperworks. They have some awesome stuff.

Calligraphy has definitely been neat. Although, I'd like to be learning how to write some crazy, awesome type instead of basic roman letters, it's still been fun to learn something new. I guess you have to learn to crawl before you walk though.

In other design related news, I started work on designing my website. So hopefully soon ALL of this will have an all new look entirely. I was going to save the site change and official release of this site as a surprise but I've been absent from posting, so that's my offering of sorry. I have my shop name saved on big cartel, I'm applying for a re-sellers license with a certain big name shirt company, and this company is about to have an official release. I have a couple shirts I'm going to have made that are not pressed by me, considering we only have a single color press. But overall, while this has been a very slow process, I am pleased with it. It has been a complete learning process for me and I feel like I wouldn't be where I am now with it all if I just would've thrown things together and pushed out a half ass'd company.

So, instead of writing a wall of text, about all the happenings of this month, I will keep it short and sweet for the most part.

I got quite a few new goodies, one major one, which is a new MacBook pro. My productivity has greatly increased but it was cut in half by the apple tv that I also got. Haha I'll just post pictures of the rest of the stuff but for the most part I had a pretty awesome week then.

This month was also my friends birthday. She was having a Kesha themed party so for her birthday I designed and printed her shirts. I also did shirts for active minds and psi chi here at sate. They actually turned out very nice. The only other work I did was a poster for our drift event we are having.

Past all that it's mostly just been school and work. I've gone out a few times with friends but for once I don't have pictures of awesome food. Haha Although, I did go up on a firetruck ladder and ended up on states homepage. It was an absolutely amazing view but I kind of freaked out for a brief moment.

Well, I'm sorry this post had taken way too long but hopefully October will be a better, semi easier month.... It will def be zombie filled! Which is always a good thing.

With the exception of school and work, not a ton has been going on. I've enjoyed all my classes so far, except I have a ton of work. Calligraphy class is probably the coolest class I have. Writing with the pens takes some getting used to and I kind of suck at it right now but I'm hoping I will improve. Haha

On a MAJOR update, last weekend my friend Trent and I started up the motor on his 2 year work in progress, project car. We ran into a lot of bumps and and mind boggling problems but we got everything sorted out and it cranked up. When we test drove it, it was having some overheating issues but he went back this weekend and got it all sorted out as well. He should be bringing it down when he comes back on Monday. I know that he is finally relieved to be over such a huge hump in this build. I've watched that car go through many changes over the years and for me it's incredibly exciting to see it all come together.

In other news, I finally got some time to do stuff around the house. Haha I straightened up the back patio and bought a much needed bench to put out there. I feel like my house is finally coming together.

I ordered a couple more things that I will update on later, but I'm going to rest before work and try and catch up on my school work these next few days. Keep a look out for updates and thanks for reading.

This post might be a little lengthy so bare with me.

Abstract Life is officially now Abstract Life, LLC. If you don't know what that means, it means that Abstract Life is now a legitimate company. I will be working on getting my website up and running this semester, along with getting my online store made. This blog will still exist but it will be a link on the main page. It will take a little while to get everything done but that gives me some time to make the official first run of everything I will sell. Some designs you have seen, I will be keeping an others will not be used. What I have left of them will be sold as test prints, limited runs, and one off's. I'm incredibly exited that all this is finally coming together. It's taken some time but it has been a learning experience and I feel that the time was needed.

On a side note, I will keep this brief, school has officially started, buffalo wild wings is officially open and I officially am going to be slammed this year with work. I did the pre-grand opening for buffalo wild wings and I was shocked at the amount of people that showed up. (they brought tents an sleeping bags) I worked till four in the morning but it was actually a lot of fun. Also, my classes this year seem like they're going to also be a lot of fun. Hopefully I can get some good work out of this semester but we shall see. I haven't had a lot of time to myself lately with school and work but I was able to go out last night with my best friend and check out an awesome show at state theater. We went to a couple other parties afterwards but it was a great night and highly needed.

It's just crazy to me that everything is coming to a close and just taking off all at the same time. There will be many updates throughout the semester, so keep a look out.

I've slacked a little bit with the updates but there's a reason! My buffalo wild wings training has been pretty crazy this week, not to mention time consuming. As hectic as it's been, I've actually had a lot of fun. I've met a lot of new people and on top of that, I've gotten free meals every night. Tonight is VIP night and I can only imagine who all is going to be there to eat.

Aside from my new job I've made two new items. One is a promo shirt and the other is a poster that I am very proud of. It's getting dangerously close to the launch of the main website I will be making so I am trying to get all my t's crossed and i's dotted. Also, I had the last of my items show up the other day. A plank that allows me to print on sleeves and two inks that are made to print on dark fabrics. I'm really excited about all of it and need to get everything finished up. I also bought something major for Abstract Life, so when that comes in I will be posting about it immediately.

Summer Daze.

Well summer studios are finally over! I finished my finals and passed both classes. I feel like I haven't had a life at all this month. I learned a lot but I'm glad I will never have to take two studios in the same month ever again. It's been incredibly challenging and draining. Now I have a little time to work on my own stuff. I screen printed a little this past week and took a trip up to Memphis to get my haircut and take a little break. I checked out a show and ate with my best friend at his Dad's house.

On top of this incredibly difficult month of July I was let go from my job. It's a long story but essentially I got screwed over. I was worried at first but I recently have been hired at buffalo wild wings that was recently built in Starkville. I found out the night we moved my friend into his apartment and we went out to Dave's Dark-horse Tavern to have a few drinks and get some food.

It's been really hectic lately, so I'm hoping it will slow down. I ordered some stuff for my business lately, so those updates will be posted as they come. My paper I ordered came in today, so I can't wait to use it. I stopped in Tupelo to eat at the food court cause I love the crappy Asian food they serve. Haha I'm about to leave to go to orientation for buffalo wild wings so this shall be interesting.

Take Me Back to Austin.

I know I was suppose to make this all about my trip to Austin but some stuff happened, along with classes, that postponed it. Anyways, I'm gonna change this blog up a bit... And start posting shorter smaller updates close together. Anyways, I'm gonna keep this short and sweet.
The eleven hour drive was not as bad as I thought it would be. I had one issue of obtaining gas but thanks to my best friend I was able to get back on the road. It was great seeing an old friend when I got there and just as great to meet new ones. They took me out to a place similar to Beale St. but WAY better. That Saturday my friend took me all around town to check out all the sights. I wish I had more time to spend there because I didn't even get to see an eighth of what I wanted to. The city is beautiful. The people are awesome. I absolutely love it there.
It was sad to come back home but I used my leftover money to get some sushi, so it was all good!
This past weekend was also my birthday. I had a lot of fun and got some really awesome gifts from my friends. Getting older sucks but having great friends just makes it an adventure.

P.s.- I also finished my self portrait and I'm really pleased about it.

Heat Wave.

Well the power is out, so what better time than now to make an update. Currently I'm cooking spaghetti on my grill outside. I REALLY wanted spaghetti. But anyways, let's get into this.

One of my best friends and roomate, Jake, has gotten a new job out in San Francisco. Well before he moved out we wanted to give him a going away party. We decided to do a pot luck. I made Santa fe chicken pasta, one person made brochette, another made dip and someone else brought cupcakes. We had a lot of fun but needless to say it was lackluster cause the fact that he was leaving. Although I did make him an awesome card that was based off of a tweet that our friend Christian mysteriously made pop up on jakes twitter. We all got a huge laugh out of it.

That weekend I decided to go home. I went out to eat at this awesome sushi place called Dó. This soup I got was phenomenal and as always the sushi was incredible. I also went and hung out with one of my closest friends, Scott. He was working out in the garage when I got over there. He was flocking a dash. Basically it makes the dash suede. He had just got back from Scraping the Coast, a car gathering of low-riders and modified trucks essentially, and while he was there; he and his girlfriend got me a present. It was two zombie comic books. They're awesome and the people that got them for me are more awesome than I can ever explain. That night we smoked our friends hookah that he brought back from Afghanistan. It was incredibly relaxing. The next day I just took the day to myself to watch movies and go to barnes and noble. I saw a lot that I wanted but didn't have the money to buy. Although, I did buy a new cook book for $8. Haha
On the fourth of July I had an amazing day of food and hanging out watching fireworks with some of the most amazing people I know ever. It was probably the best day I've ever had in years. I also got an awesome little bonsai tree as present from her. It's currently not growing at the moment but I still love it!

Classes started last week and they've actually been kicking my ass. I'm taking life drawing and painting 1. I love my teachers and I'm learning a lot but this whole 8-5 in the studio deal is really hard work. My meals reflect it. I am learning a lot and that's all that matters.

This past weekend was a lot of fun. I went to this thing at Harrah's in Tunica, Ms called Harrah's Heat Wave Pool Party. It's only $5 to get in and the drinks are a little pricey but overall it was pretty cool. I also tried my luck at the slots. I lost $19 and decided to walk out with my pride in hand. That night I helped my friend work on his car but we didn't get too far considering we started at 1 a.m. and spent 30 minutes doing it the wrong way. That weekend I also ate at Ghengis Grill, one of my favorite places to eat at!

When I got back home I started working on the Save the Date cards my hair stylist hired me to do. So far I like the way they're coming but I'll post pics of them in the next update, when they're finished.

Speaking of updates.. I'm thinking this coming up week is gonna be a little different. I'm going to Austin, TX on Friday so I'm going to make an update solely based on that and also I've been thinking about doing a "Tour of Starkville" style post. Most people think of this place as cows and farm fields, when it is far from that.

Well, I wasn't kidding when I said the updates might get pushed back this month. I'm barely finding time to write this now. Haha I've put it off long enough, though. I'm going to be a little brief in some instances and let the pictures do most of the talking. There are quite a few.

Anyways, one of the major events this month was my good friends Matt and Cynthia's wedding. They had it outside on a bridge on family land in Alabama. Haha It was beautiful. I can honestly say that I cried. It was incredibly emotional and I'm so very happy for them. Aside from the gorgeous wedding, the night before and day of the wedding, all the groomsmen hung out at the pool having a couple of beers and telling stories. I can honestly say that I haven't had a good time like that in a very long time. The drive up there was a lot of fun to me and also very eye opening. The twisty roads were fun but when I started passing through towns that were leveled by those horrible tornados, it became very surreal.

When I got back to Starkville after that weekend I cooked a VERY large dinner. Although a ton of food, it was delicious! Especially the skewers! This past month has also been pretty tight money wise. As we've pretty much almost ran completely out of food, I've been living off of ramen noodles. A.k.a.- flavored salt noodles. Haha

Fathers day was also this month. Our whole family decided to go to my brothers house boat at Heber Springs in Arkansas. As always, it was a TON of fun. We stopped on the way up there and ate at my favorite place, the big bayou market. The fathers day breakfast was also amazing, considering I don't eat breakfast.

In other news I got a little something new. It came out amazing and I love it! It didn't even cost much! Speaking of new things.. I also got in some new screen printing ink... Glow in the dark and metallic gold! They are so much fun! I also started printing the war shirt. It came out great as well.

I had to dog sit this past weekend and I decided to take a day to myself on sat and go around to different stores such as the pet store, dirt cheap, lowes and walmart. I had a good day. Later on I went to screen print and then for a break, Matt Lanke, Molly and I went to get ice cream. I definitely made a "special" combination. Haha

I also started printing my logo onto the backs of all my shirts. It took forever! But I got halfway done. School has kept me from being able to get a lot done. Although, it was my teachers birthday the other day and she handed us pre-written notes for the day and cupcakes! Having the day off was relaxing.

Today is my final for animal biology and I'm done with core classes! I stayed up a little too late last night, but I'm feeling better the more I stay awake. Haha We went to see transformers 3, which was amazing, and didn't get home till 2 in the morning. Which wouldn't have been bad if I didn't have to get up at 9 to take my best friend Andrew to the airport. He'll be in Washington state for a month.

Tonight is my roomate and close friend Jake moore's going away party. He got a job in San Francisco and is moving there next week. I'm really gonna miss that kid.

Hopefully the next update won't be so far away next time. I just got caught up. Thanks for the support and patience. I need all the support I can get these days...

P.S. - I finally made a business card for abstract life. It will be laser cut out of metal or plexiglass. The backs will be spray painted black and the fronts cyan, magenta, and yellow. I'm super excited about them!

Well I've kind of slacked on updating the site this past week. Mostly it's been because I have not had a chance to slow down. I finished a new design for a shirt only. It will not be a poster. If it sounds familiar then you have probably watched bugs bunny at least once in your life. I also separated out my logo to press onto my shirts.
I got a chance to make some Mexican food like I've been wanting to. I made grilled chicken burrito's and refried beans. It was awesome!
Our friend Matt rode his bike over to the house one day and I had the chance to get back on a motorcycle for the first time in years. We also went over to a large field where Jake got the same opportunity. It was a pretty fun day.
I was also presented with a unique opportunity to go photograph my friend Scott drifting for an auto commercial for Joe Usry Auto in Jackson, MS. All the employees there were incredibly cool, helpful and hospitable. I got to watch some good drifting, funny moments, my car washed and cleaned out and then free lunch. Definitely an awesome way to spend a wednesday.
That weekend I did a ton of driving back and forth from Starkville and Memphis. I had to borrow my Dad's truck to bring back my light table and a few other things. When I finally got back home to Starkville I made some BBQ ribs and pork & beans for memorial day. I have to say they were great! Definitely need to make them more often.
On a kind of good, kind of bad note, I spent a bit of money this past week. I restocked my shirts to print on and I bought a 46" 1080p samsung LCD tv. It is probably one of the most awesome things I have ever bought for myself.
I did some more printing yesterday and intended on making up a screen but we were all out of emulsion up at the lab. When we order some more, I will start printing the new shirts, so keep checking back for that. Summer classes have started back, so time between posts might be q little longer than normal but there will still be updates every week or so.

This past week has been crazy. Moving around the house, doing tons of work, started my internship and trying not to go crazy. Haha
I finally worked on a logo I told my friend Scott that I would do for him. I haven't had much time to work on it but finally made some time for myself with a work day and got it done. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. Modern, tasteful, and different. I also started printing my new shirt design. I had issues with the ink laying down correctly so I just made up some posters for the time being.

I took a break from printing and designing for a couple of days to kind of relax and take it easy since I've been going non-stop. We had a BBQ night where I cooked some chicken and other things and just hung out. Our friend Matt brought his hooka over and we all had a go at that. Ever since an awesome restaurant in town changed hands, we haven't had a hooka bar to go to, so that was a nice treat. Later in the week, I made some chicken penne pasta that was killer!
I also got a wedding invitation in the mail from my old teacher and good friend Carey. He moved to New York but they are coming back to Starkville to get married. On the front of the envelope was my name hand drawn in an awesome type!

Another cool surprise, our friend Chris came up to hang out this weekend. I always know I'm gonna have a good weekend if he comes up. Haha We took a small trip to Tupelo to go to the mall out there. I found a few cool items I would've liked to buy but chose to wait. I have to spend money in other places right now. Needs>Wants. Haha
I haven't left the screen-printing studio this past week it feels like. I helped my friend Matt Lanke print some shirts that he's been wanting to make and they turned out awesome! The splatter looks amazing on the shirts. We also taught Chris how to print yesterday. He had a couple shirts he wanted made for a while so we did that all day yesterday after a Doctor Who marathon we decided to start. While we were printing his shirts I decided to give mine another go and FINALLY got it to work and printed a few up. I have another design that I'll be finishing up today when I get off work. So be looking for that. (hint: it has to do with looney tunes)

I forgot to mention the farmers market this past Saturday was pretty fun with everyone there. I only sold one poster but hanging out with everyone was totally worth it even though it was uncomfortably hot.

Molly's fundraiser for Smithville is this Friday, so I will be working my ass off this week getting ready for it and other things. I Heart Screen Printing

Well I've been in the studio a lot this past week and also got a chance to go to my favorite sushi restaurant, umi's! I designed a poster and t-shirt for the smithville fundraiser we will be having for the victims of the tornado damage, which was in the previous update. My friend Molly is getting the fundraiser going. She's a very talented designer. Check her out at molly-moon.com!
My friend Jake and I went up to Memphis this Friday so we could pick up a table for our booth at the farmer's market. It was incredibly cold and rainy that day. On our way up we watched a woman hydroplane and go off into a ditch. We circled back to make sure she was ok and called for first responders. Thankfully she was ok and just had a cut on her arm from the airbag going off. If that wasn't crazy enough, on our way back to Starkville that night a fox ran out in front of Jake's car and got decimated along with the left side of his bumper. Aside from that it was a pretty awesome day! The next morning was the farmer's market. I haven't gotten up that early in a while but it was a lot of fun. I only sold 3 buttons for Japan, but I still had a great time with Molly.
Today I spent some time making two new t-shirts. I'm about to go up to the studio and clean my old screen and maybe print a little.

Summer Is Here.

This past week has been crazy, fun, and busy! May 4th was, of coarse, filled with star wars! I gave away two screen prints, which I need to ship out, and that night we watched star wars episode 1, skipped 2 and 3 for obvious reasons, watched 4 and started watching 5 but it started skipping so bad we couldn't finish it and I fell asleep. Haha Matt Lanke brought over his light saber and storm trooper helmet. We def had fun with those. We also made a couple of pizza's. Needless to say, it was a great day and night.

The next day was cinco de mayo! We obviously had to go out and eat some Mexican food and have margarita's. The wait was ridiculous but well worth it. Afterwards I went over to Molly's and we watched the big lebowski, great movie by the way. After the movie I went over to my friend Kaci's and hung out with her and Jake. She had a party at her house for cinco de mayo and a friend of hers' birthday. The party was over by the time I showed up, so I mostly just went to hang out.

I was really looking forward to the weekend cause I had a lot planned. Friday when I got into town my friends were playing a show at murphy's downtown. Their band is Capgun and they are incredible. The show was a lot of fun and I got to hang out with some friends I haven't seen in forever. After the show we went to go get some food at Perkins. It was a ton of food and absolutely delicious! The next day I went with my dad to a small car show and farmers market that they have in Hernando. It was pretty cool. I got some awesome salsa, peanut butter and chocolate fudge and saw some pretty nice cars and one cool rat rod. Haha It started to rain so my dad and I left and stopped by an awesome place called Happy Daze to get some lunch. As always they make great food! Their hamburgers are really good! For dinner my mom and I got Chinese take out and ate dinner at the house. That night was electrocity. It was my first time going to the new venue at newby's. While it's a lot bigger and somewhat nicer, the people who run it and the rent a cops are complete assholes. Regardless of them, the show was awesome! Great beats as always, fake blood was sprayed into the crowd and I had fun dancing! Two nights in a row I didn't get home till 3 in the morning.

I think those two days did me in cause I spent all day Sunday feeling sick. We went out to eat Mexican for mother's day with my brother and his family. I didn't feel good so all I got was rice and I'm glad too cause I got sick on the drive home and had to pull over.

Yesterday, I went and picked up my medicine and all the stuff for us to screen print with came in. We went to set the screens up at the art department and decided to throw a football around while we waited for Kaci to get off work. We were gonna go running but decided ordering pizza and watching the newest episode of Dr. Who was a way better plan. Later we went up to the studio to screen print and spent all night up there. I stayed till only 3 but Jake stayed working till 6 in the morning. All the posters came out great though and I was really pleased with mine. All that's left to do to them is trim them down a bit.

This Friday I'm going back up to Memphis to pick up a part for a friend and go to a business meeting but I have to drive back that night cause the farmers market is Saturday morning. It's gonna be interesting.

Well school is finally over and so is April. Towards the end of April we had absolutely crazy weather. As previously posted but this time it was bad. Several tornados touched down and mainly affected the Alabama area. Thoughts and prayers go out to all the families that lost anyone or anything. My friend Molly is putting together a fundraiser for the victims in smithville, the hardest hit town. In Starkville however many TVA lines were down leaving all of the Starkville area without any power at all.
You don't realize how much you depend on electricity until you're without it. We couldn't even cook anything at first cause every appliance uses electricity. Thank God I love to cook and own a propane grill and charcoal grill. We were hungry so we decided to make some ramen on the propane grill and without electricity we sat around candle light and talked about stuff. Our friend Christian had enough battery power on his computer for us to watch the first episode of the new Dr. Who season. Thanks to twitter we found out that free ice cream was being given out at the cold stone creamery in town cause the power was expected to be out for a couple of days. After that our friend Molly met us up there and then came over to our house for a power out party. Haha We decided that we weren't going to leave our friend Matt Lanke alone, so I decided to go pick him up from his house across town.
The drive there was creepy and awesome. It looked like a ghost town or a town out of a zombie movie. Pitch black. When we got back I cooked BBQ chicken and grilled corn on the charcoal grill. I ran out of propane apparently. Haha It was a fun night filled with laughs, stories and food. It was pretty cool not having technology for a day and night but I sure was happy when it came on early the next morning. I love a/c, what can I say.
The next day was beautiful. Jake and I went to mugshots for lunch and on the way my exhaust broke, making it louder and a deeper tone. I'm fixing it but needless to say, I wasn't worried about it. Haha
On the morning of the royal wedding I accidentally woke up early and decided what the hell, I'll watch it. I was much more excited about the beautiful sunrise so started watching it instead. I then did what I never do and made breakfast. I had toast. Nothing special but for someone that doesn't eat breakfast it was awesome. I went back to bed and woke up later than I wanted to but it was a beautiful day so I decided to go to mugshots to have a couple drinks and found out that there was going to be a foam party at state theater. I decided to go since I've never been and I love dubstep. I got there early to watch the grizzlies game before the show started. It was an awesome game and we won! The show was interesting to say the least. I got soapy, wet and had a good time dancing. The dj's switched and the show got a little bit less awesome, so I decided to cut out early.
The next day consisted of going grocery shopping, where Jake and I got awesome cyan, magenta, and yellow candles on accident and then later that night we went up to the screen printing studio where Molly was working on some napkins for a wedding. We got a little delirious as it got later and started goofing around. There were some interesting pictures and videos made.
Yesterday was a lazy day. We went to blockbuster and got three very awesome movies and had a movie night and found out that after nine and a half years they finally found and killed Bin Laden. So hoorah and that's all I'll say about it. Twitter and Facebook said enough for everyone. No use in going over it again.
I spent today hanging out with my friend Andrew. We went to get some BBQ at the best place in town called Petty's. It's on par, if not better than Memphis BBQ. I'm about to start work on some stuff for this summer and this weekend my friends band is playing at murphy's in Memphis on Friday and then electrocity is having a show at newby's on Saturday. I highly encourage everyone to attend both of these. All the cool people will be there.

Well this past week has certainly been a crazy one. I finished my make-up test for plants and humans and totally passed it with flying colors. Thanks to the help of chik-fil-a. Haha I also just took my final in that class yesterday and I feel decent about it. I guess we'll see.
A very old, close friend of mine that I grew up with in my old neighborhood was visiting Starkville, so he crashed on my couch and the next morning I took him to mugshots to eat. He got the peanut butter burger. As odd as it sounds, it's actually delicious. I didn't eat but it was two for one domestics!
These past couple of weeks has also been tornado central in Mississippi. I got next to no work done and spent more time in the basement of the library than I did anywhere else. During the crazy weather and on my drive home from work, it decided to hail harder than I've ever seen. Needless to say I didn't make it to cover in time and now have quite a few dents all over my car. Yay hail damage...
I had been looking forward to Thursday night for a while. My friend Micah was coming to town to play at the last Laser Ray show of the semester. It was absolutely awesome and I threw down hard.... Too hard to be exact. I had to drive back to Memphis the next morning at 9 and I didn't even get in until 4 in the morning. It was a long drive with gaterade as my support and source of cheap entertainment.
My mom and I went shopping cause i needed new clothes so that was my easter present. I got quite a few new things then we left to go out of town to Heber Springs, Arkansas for Easter weekend to stay at my brothers house boat. It's in a slip in a marina called Eden Isle. I was reluctant to go but I'm glad I went nonetheless. It was relaxing and I needed that. We stopped on our way there at this amazing creole restaurant and meat market. I got the fried oyster and shrimp basket and my mom and brother got the fried catfish basket. It was the BEST fried seafood I've ever had. When we got to the boat the rest of the weekend consisted of great scenery, great food, red stripe (of coarse), a festival they had in town and a lot of relaxing. The last night there we all played poker, which I was definitely not on top of my game. Haha I learned quite a few new games, so all in all, it was all good.
On Easter day my nephew, his girlfriend and I went out on the jet ski and rode around for a bit. There is only one other thing that equals or surpasses driving my car around town and on highways and that is jet skies. I think I live for adrenaline rushes, speed and the wind whipping by. It's the one thing that comes close to what it feels like to ride a motorcycle. Nothing comes close to the feel of being on an actual bike though. I miss it a lot.
When I got back to Starkville yesterday, I did some house work and then went out with all my friends to the Natchez Trace and went to Little Mountain. It was more like big hill but either way it was pretty. We left there and went to eat at a place called Traceway. I got the fried seafood sampler and had to be educated in the proper way to eat catfish with the bones still attached. When we left we got awesome 50 cent metallic tattoo's. I don't have a pic but they were awesome.
When I got home I finished up my last two design projects. I have my graphic design history final left and I'm done with the spring semester.
I'm now unwinding at mugshots until 5 o'clock when I have to present my multimedia final. I made a pong game out of my logo. Haha This will be an interesting presentation.

Well I finished my book, I'm close to finishing my playing cards and I'm about to take my first exam at two o'clock. It's graphic design history and i'm actually feeling good about it... Which is a first. This week has been hectic and it's only Tuesday. Although this past weekend was pretty good. My friends and I went to see the movie Your Highness, which was pretty funny in my opinion. Sunday night Jake, Kaci and I went to umi's to get some sushi. Of course my weapon of choice their is always saporro roll, octopus nigiri and a saporro to drink. As always, it was amazing.

This week is far from over but when Thursday rolls around it's going down. My friend Micah is coming down to Starkville to play the Laser Ray show at Rick's. He's an amazing dj that goes by youre_strooly. Check him out. He's a really nice guy and very talented. I'll post some pics of what I have over these past couple of days. Check back later in the week for more updates. I'm going to go ahead and post a crappy picture of my cards just to give an idea of what they look like. They are based off Greek mythology. See if you can figure out which one is which. The ace of spades I'm still working on so it's obviously blank. Haha

Well I haven't had a chance to update my site in a couple weeks. I've been sick, had finals and had some family problems, but I'm working on me and just trying to better myself and allow life to happen. That's all I can do and I can't control everything in life. Life throws you out in the middle of the ocean sometimes and you just have to keep your head above water and persevere.

So a lot has happened these past couple weeks so I'm gonna try and cover all the ground. The Benefit for Japan was a success and those items will still be on sale, just email me at abstractlife@me.com. Thanks for everyone who came out and donated or bought something. Every little bit counts. Import Performance Shop is also a collection spot registered with the Red Cross, so if you just want to donate, call them or go up there. They are great people and the epitome of a good family run local shop. Support people like that, because they will always be there for you and help you out. There needs to be more companies like them.

I spent an entire day that Sunday I came back out at Oktibbeha County Lake. It's incredibly peaceful and a great place to chill out and clear your head. It's probably one of my favorite places in Starkville. I definitely needed that place that night.

In school finals are upon us and grinding me down. I'm working on two book cover illustrations, The Great Gatsby and Animal Farm, which are close to being done. The Great Gatsby is a little further along though. I'll put pictures up of their progress. I'm also working on playing card illustrations. I have to do four face cards and I'm not entirely into this project I think. I like the concept, but I'm just at a block... or summer is catching up to me. Either way, I'm pushing through it and hopefully come out with a nice piece. I just finished up my Voodoo Experience screen print and it came out awesome. I'll also put a picture up of it as well. I can't wait until this summer, I plan on doing a couple of prints.

Also, this summer I'm going to be doing the market with my friend Molly and possibly Jake. I can't remember if it's every Saturday or not but it's going to be fun... I just don't know how getting up really early is going to work out. haha I'm going to try and make a few screen prints, buttons and stickers. Hopefully I can get a shirt or two pressed. I might even just press some myself up at the studio. I'm not too sure yet, but I'll worry about that when the time comes.

In my hard times these past couple weeks my friends have helped me more than I ever thought they could. I usually try to deal with my issues by myself but they have had my back the entire time and I don't think I could ever express to them how grateful I truly am. I'm so lucky to have them.

Last weekend a few of us went to the BFA show and then went over and sat on a hill by the art department and watched Toy Story 3. They were playing it on the jumbo tron. It was pretty awesome. :) I also tried something new on Sunday. I went to Mugshots and sketched for a project while taking part in their 2 for 1 domestic special. Needless to say, it was interesting and I liked it.

A couple days ago we went out to an awesome burger place in Starkville called Mugshots. Their burgers are HUGE and amazing. Mushroom burger is definitely where it's at. Also the fried pickles and mushrooms were amazing.

Molly's birthday was also this past week. She opened her presents, we went out to Umi's and then came back to Cynthia's, ate cupcakes and killed a pinata. It was definitely a fun night. Molly got some cool presents. Some really cool person got her a Holga camera. I wonder who that was. :) haha

We all had a dilemma the other night as well. We had to print and everyone's printers were out of ink except for our friend Matt Lanke. He was a lifesaver... but we almost broke his printer. We got it fixed though. It was definitely a LONG night but it was filled with laughs and deliriousness. It involved pasta sauce, death eaters, and sorcery.

Yesterday was unproductive and interesting all at once. Four tornado warnings all through the day and then the lakes around where we live flooded the area in a lot of spots. It was a pretty crazy sight. We even got a new river in our back yard for a little while. It finally calmed down towards the night. We went over to Molly's house for a storm party. We ordered pizza and watched The Big Bang Theory. (Great sitcom)

Today, before Jake and I cleaned the entire house, Molly, Jake, and I went out to Backroads Antiques. It's a very literal and rightfully named antique shop. It's seriously out in the middle of nowhere but it's ran by the sweetest old couple that I've ever met. They recently just had their 67th Anniversary. It's so rare to see that these days and I can only give respect to them for being able to last like that. People like that remind me that true love isn't dead. While we were at their shop I actually picked up a couple things. I got a West Side Story record and two wood print blocks.

The whole house is spotless now and I need to do some work before we go to the movies tonight. We're seeing Your Highness. I've heard good things. Tomorrow is usually my design day, so I will start finishing up my stuff tomorrow. All new ink and paper came in yesterday; so I can finally get some stuff done. Pan's been helping me out while I work today.

Unite for Japan

So I spent the better part of Tuesday making 1" buttons. I started around 1 o'clock and went at it solo for a solid 4 hours, until my friends came in at 5 for class and started helping me. Thanks so much for Molly, Matt, and Cynthia for all their help. I had to make 200 for a drift organization in Memphis called Traction Optional. On top of that I made 100 buttons for japan. They are based off of a poster design, both of which you can purchase. The buttons are $1 and the poster is $10. All the profit goes to the red cross for Japan.

The destruction that has happened there is incredibly sad and many lives were lost. You can email me at abstractlife@me.com to purchase either items and I'll get your info on where to send them. You are also welcome to buy one from me if you see me. I will also be at a benefit meet for Japan at Import Performance Shop tomorrow. There Is a donation box set up if you would also just simply like to donate to the red cross. There will also be food... Who doesn't like free food? Well my site has been down for a bit but I finally got it back up and running. All of us went down to Gulf Shores for spring break. We stayed for an entire week and I have to say; I feel like a need a vacation for my vacation. It's been forever since I've gone to the beach, so it was fun to go down there with some good friends and hang out. Everyone got down there Monday but Trent and I didn't leave until 9:30 p.m. that night... Needless to say the 8 hour drive was interesting and a lot of fun. I haven't gone on a journey like that with Trent in a long time. I tried to take as many pics during the trip as possible but didn't want to get my phone or camera messed up on the beach. So enjoy the pics I did manage to get. The pics should be in sequence of when my spring break started. Take out for dinner with my mom, lunch with my dad at chili's and then the start of the trip to the end. Great food, great scenery, and a lot of left over beer.

Finally finished my children's book! What a relief. This was way more tedious than I originally thought it would be. Funny thing is, I'm still going to remake it because I want to do the whole story. (which is only 2 more spreads) Also, laser cutters are AWESOME! ^_^ Enjoy the picture's of it. Cover was chip board and pages were printed on photo luster paper. Well a cold front has come through, deadlines are getting closer for my children's book, which I'm pleased with, and I have till after spring break for my voodoo fest poster. All is going well. I seem to over stress myself. For most who know me, I come off as a "fuck it" kind of guy. If you don't accept me for me then I never wanted to know you in the first place. Which is still the case but when it comes to my work and my friends that are close to me. I find myself grasping for acceptance. I've always been one that has a plan. And I think that's what stresses me out is not having control.

Over half my work is crap to me and I always wonder what my friends truly think about me. I know I'm loud and can talk people's ear off but deeper than that. Surprisingly, I miss high school. Before any expectations were made of me or responsibilities. Back when all I worried about was who's house we were going to next, what we were gonna do that weekend. And my only worry was not going to jail. Life was easy but the fun thing about life is that it keeps on going. I have an amazing fiancé, some of the best friends I could ever ask for and family that supports me no matter what. I have had some of the most amazing experiences and memories that I hold dear in my almost 23 years.

I get stressed out and down from time to time but I have to remind myself just to stfu and realize how amazing the people around me make my life. Courtney is the most incredible woman that could have ever came into my life and words can't express how lucky I am to have her. Jake is like that younger twin I never had. Even though he can get lazy or pisses me off sometimes he's family to me. Matt is that lifetime car buddy that even when we get old, fat and gray he will be there by my side in a lawn chair on the side of a strip watching old cars go by and will always be family. Cynthia is the rival sister I never had. She is one of the most talented people I've met and I'm envious of her drawing skills. And no matter how much she picks on me I know it's all in good fun. Sometimes it hurts my feelings but it's ok... I can be a baby who loves airplanes in the night sky. Molly, while I joke about her being a mom, is more close to an older sister. She's sweet, caring, and honest but can get mean when provoked. She's incredibly talented and her creativity is out of this world. I'm so thankful to have her as a friend and can't imagine not having her as one. These are people I see on a daily basis in Starkville and all of them are part of my family as far as I'm concerned. I can't imagine not having them in my life.

The friends that I have back home go without saying, but Andrew, I grew up with since I can literally remember. He is my brother... No question. Most are surprised that we have been friends this long but he is the oldest friend I have. Most of all my old memories involve him. Trent is another friend that goes way back. He is also just as much my brother as my actual ones. He's made some pretty dumb decisions but he's learning from them. He's incredibly smart and I can rely on him for almost anything. I have to help him remember sometimes though. Haha and last but certainly not least... Scott. I haven't known him nearly as long as Trent or Andrew but I feel like I have. Once again he is my brother, hands down, to me. I've had some of my best times and worst times with him. I can ask him about anything and he will be brutally honest with me about whatever it is. I would do anything for him and I know he would do the same for me. He's had some rough times lately but he has a great girl that supports him, as well as me. He is one of the hardest working people I know and deserves to get whatever he wants.

Sorry for the wall of text. If you read this, props to you. I wish I could give you a trophy or cookie for reading it all. I know I wouldn't have. So thanks for listening. I don't usually express a lot of emotion like this. But it made me feel better and sometimes it's easier for me to write than talk.... Surprising... I know.

Do Work!

I've been busy working on my 2 latest projects, a children's book and a screen printing poster for either voodoo fest or magnolia film fest. I'm illustrating the story from Shel Silverstein, "Monsters I've Met", which, so far, has been a lot of fun. I'll put pictures up later when I'm closer to being done. As far as the poster, I still need to narrow down which subject to go with. I have a few more ideas for voodoo fest, so I may go with that one. As time goes on let mr know what you think.

As far as my car is going, I need to finish bleeding my brakes, drain my fuel tank, and finish putting the rest of my motor back together. Hopefully it will run but if not, I have another motor to drop in and pray it runs. Haha I'm so ready for this car to run I can't stand it.

Now, with my own personal work, when I get paid I need to order button blanks and start pressing my buttons. I'll post pics of the designs a little bit later but I'll have them for sale for $1 a button. So when I get them done please help support my broke ass by buying some. Haha when I get home tonight. Shaky Start, Good Ending

Today seemed like a disaster when I woke up. My paycheck got screwed up and I wasn't paid the correct amount. This still hasn't been fixed but my day got better. I sold my wii for what I was wanting and no longer have to worry how to pay for a racing seat that I ordered from an awesome auto shop called Import Performance Shop. I also got some work done on my car today. I'm building a 93' 240sx drift car and I was able to finish up my brakes and swap the head on my motor thanks to some help from my friend Adam. I'm about to go to walmart now with Courtney and get some groceries, make a pizza and rent a movie from the redbox. Overall... Awesome day. I'm tired as hell. New Start.

I've had a blog for a while but with school and work it gets hard to stay on top of it and update it. So here I am giving it another go. I'm abandoning my old blogspot and using posterous. It's cool though cause posterous allows me to post on here and it will auto post to other sites. Pretty cool. Anyways, this blog will be different than my old one. It will have random photos, sort thoughts, long rants and everything in between. It will be my life. I tried to keep it professional and centered mostly around my work that I was doing. Well, I've decided that Abstract Life is more than just my work. It's the things I like, the things I do, my friends and family, my awesome fiance', my crazy pets... my work too; but while I think it's very important to me, I am nothing without the wonderful people and things in my life. My close friends are my family and my hobbies, likes, and dislikes define me who I am as a person. This is what makes my life abstract.

New Beggings.

Well, the new year has started and so has the new semester of school. I got a new camera for Christmas (Nikon D3000), which I will be learning and experimenting with. I'm taking a photo class this semester, so I will be showing off some of my projects from that class on here as well. Also, in ceramics this semester I will be creating a series based off my coffee cup design. (Tea pot, tea cups, pitcher, cups, and tray) So far the tea pot is made. It still has to be fired, glazed and then high fired. I'll post pics of it this weekend. We also started in my intermediate computing for arts class... I made a panda.

But anyways, This weekend is a big weekend. I am going to pick up my new car, a 93 240sx hatchback. I'll have more on this later. I am also picking up my brand new computer that was mentioned in an earlier blog. I'm really excited to start working with and on both of these items. I also have to say a HUGE thanks to Scott and his dad for letting me use their trailer to get my car down here to Starkville. Their one great family everyone should know. Well, that's about it for now. Only other thing is, I've been out of the shoe game for a while now, but recently I've been looking again and I'm pretty excited about what Adidas is coming out with...

On Top of the World.

Currently, I'm in an awesome cabin at the top of a mountain, in Gatlinburg. My phone is the only source of Internet I have.... But I don't think that it's a bad thing. I got my camera for Christmas and since then I have taken enough pictures to fill this cabin from floor to ceiling. We will be back home on the 1st or 2nd and I'll be going to get my computer.... FINALLY! I will then update everone on what all is going on in an Abstract Life. Also, there will be a new, long-term project happeningwhen I get back to the house. It involves two things I don't have..... A truck and a trailor. Check back for all this and more.

The Shape of Things to Come.

So, I've been SUPER busy since school got out. So much for a "break", but anyways... I've started working while I'm out of school, which entails me to rake... rake and rake and RAKE for 8 hours across giant apartment complexes. At least it counts as a work out and speaking of which, I've been doing really good with the healthy living plan. I haven't gotten a chance to work on my instillation piece I want to do for the art show at State (and hopefully other places). Also, since I mentioned it... instead of doing a couple pieces for the show, I am now going to be doing a full instillation, which will comprise of the main emphasis areas of art that I love: Graphic Design, Sculpture, Painting, and Ceramics. I might be including drawing and photography but I am not sure yet. The whole instillation is still under a conceptualization period. So far though, the instillation's theme is America and the idea of using the many different mediums is a call to my label, Abstract Life. Everything is just kinda on the back burner till I can get my computer which will be at the end of this month. There's also been a change in the computer I am getting. Although, it is still a mac. =)

Apple's new 27" iMac... that's right... twenty-seven inches. =) The reason for the change is simple for me. When working I am either at home or at the design lab, where there are tons of computers with all the software I need. Also, designing on a laptop is kind of tedious and annoying... especially when you don't have a mouse and have to use the scroll pad. Thirdly, I like the fact of having a huge screen to work on. It just feels more comfortable. And finally, it's suprisingly portable. With the entire computer just being a screen, tiny wireless keyboard and mouse, if I HAD to take it somewhere... it wouldn't be a problem. Also, in light of everything going on, I got my acceptance letter from State's graphic design board. I'm SUPER excited and relieved to get in. As a reward for doing well and getting accepted, I will be getting these shiny new toys.

But anyways, sorry for being so long winded, I tend to do that, but I had some catching up to do. Thanks for reading and keep checking here for updates on what I have coming. As soon as I get my computer, I will be starting my designs for some t-shirts I've been wanting to do for a while.

So between Thanksgiving, finals, and not having a computer to work on, I haven't posted in a little bit. So, let me catch up. Thanksgiving was amazing. I love hanging out with my family and eating lots of food. =) Speaking of which, I've stopped drinking cokes and I've started eating healthier foods. Also, after Christmas break, I will be going back to the gym. But anyways, back to work. I had my final crit in my ceramics class this morning, which went well. Also, I was able to pick up my portfolio from the office. All I have to do now is just wait on the almighty letter of acceptance or denial. My identity package is almost complete. Everything is printed out and all that remains is assembly. The book is gonna be a pain to bind but it all looks really good. My stamp could be better but I'm not gonna worry over the small things. They did a good job for the amount of time I needed it by. My business card and letterhead I am overly pleased with. I like its simplicity. And like an an acquaintance of mine says, "Always remember, K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid)."

So currently I am still out of a computer and will most likely be getting my new one closer to Christmas, but there might be a chance that I could get it when I come home for Thanksgiving. I guess we'll see. As far as school goes, I'm slowly but surely getting everything done. I finished all the ceramic work that I had to produce... I even had time to make a couple extra things that I felt like doing. Including a few things for some close friends of mine for Christmas.* I just finished the complete layout for my artist book and all that remains left to do for it is get my rubber stamp made of my logo, print out the pages, and then bind it. I also made revisions to the index to fix up a couple technical issues and also tweaked my logo a bit. I'll update the logo later but heres what the index looks like completed.

Also, I'm about to start selling some unique coffee cups that I designed here in the very near future. I will be making an etsy site to sell them on but until then, send me an email if your interested. I don't really have a price for them yet, but its floating around $10 currently but if you email me before I make the etsy site, I'll cut the price down. This is what it looks like.

Death of a Computer

Well it finally happened... after 3 years of me completely pushing my macbook pro to the limits, it died two days ago. I fried the battery because I played World of Warcraft for two years straight on it. Essentially my laptop became a desktop because it would only turn on if it was plugged up to an outlet, which I have been dealing with for the past few months now. That is until two days ago. I went to go turn it on and I heard the HD click on and it sounded like it was starting up like normal... but nope... screen stayed black. Sooo... it seems as if my screen is no more and since thats a pretty important component, it seems as if I am going to have to invest into a new one. I was gonna hold out for the tablet mac, but i guess my computer had other plans. Its sad to see my computer go, but I have to say, under all the stress I put that computer under, it was by far the best computer I have ever had ... even on its last leg, it still performed great. I think I won't play WoW on the next one... I'll just buy a cheap PC laptop for that. So out with the old :

Just semi-finished my index for my artist book. I have the ceramics blade to add but I have to go take pictures at the lighting studio before I can do that. Anyways, here's the progress I have so far. It's amazing to me how you can sum up ALL the hours worth of work put into these pieces in a book that you can flip through in minutes.

The Wait Begins.

Portfolio is done! Finished it last night around 10 and turned it in this morning at 8. Now I just have to sit back and wait till around sometime in December... YAY anxious waiting! Now that I'm done with that, I can start working on the things I've had on the back burner. I'm working on an artist book, I'm close to finishing my business card and letter head, and I'm also trying to get started with the pieces I will be submiting in the student art show after Christmas. Also I have some catching up to do with my ceramic work. I finished a pitcher today and I'm waiting for a bowl to harden up a bit before continuing on it. Here's one piece I've been working on for a while now. All that remains to be done to it is putting it all in the high fire kiln.

This one word means everything that is going on in my life right now. My portfolio is due this Monday by noon and it seems that the word execution can sum it up. While reviewing these portfolio's, the decision of who is accepted or denied will come down to the precise skill of not only our works of art but the craft and skill put into assembling the portfolio itself. Photographing the works that are too big to fit inside the book, adjusting and typing out the pictures and labels, and making sure everything will be clean and fixed inside the portfolio perfectly straight, will all be taken into account by the graphic design board. Essentially my head is on the chopping block, because if I am not accepted, I will not be able to get into the graphic design department and will have to change my major. Anyways, regardless of all this anxiety circulating inside my body, I feel confident in my portfolio and optimistic on being accepted. With that being said, I leave you with my artist statement:

I find a deep passion and fascination in not only the design itself, but also the process of creating that specific design. Without the sketches and research, or thought on the elements inside the design, such as type, style, or medium, a great design can never be achieved. Most people will say that design is everything and while I understand where they are coming from, I must say that process is everything, because a great design is only created when great process has been put to use.

These past few days and the next week is going to be relentless. I have a portfolio due next monday, which is taking forever to complete. Pretty much everything is riding on this review, but when I get tired of working on it, I seem to find it relaxing to work with clay. Here's one of the pieces I have been working on currently.

Well I figured I'd go ahead and make a blog spot. Myspace and Facebook are useless to me and there are things that I feel like sharing about whats going on with me. I'm constantly working on new things whether it be design, sculpture, ceramics, painting, etc... So I'm gonna do my best to keep this thing updated and if anyone feels like it.. let me know what you guys think. I'm a double major at Mississippi State in graphic design, which I'm currently going through a review to be accepted into the department, and ceramics.

Also, I have to say that the two people who turned me on to blogging have blogs here... they are both really cool guys.
